Day 1: Journey into the Wild
Your adventure begins at El Puente with a 3-hour canoe trip down the Cuyabeno River. Enjoy an introductory briefing on the region’s biodiversity from our expert guides as you travel. Upon arrival at Pillpintu Jungle Residence, enjoy lunch followed by an afternoon of wildlife spotting. Listen for the calls of monkeys and tropical birds, and keep an eye out for the rare pink river dolphins. The evening includes an adventurous night walk before dinner.
Day 2: Cultural Heritage & Riverside Camping
After breakfast, we visit the Siona Community of Puerto Bolivar. Our guides will share insights into local traditions and ancestral customs. You’ll participate in a demonstration of craft-making—including jewellery and shigras (woven bags)—and help prepare traditional casabe (yucca bread). After a box lunch, we continue downstream by canoe to our jungle campsite. Spend the evening immersed in the sounds of the rainforest as we settle in for a night in tents under the stars.
Day 3: Forest Trekking & Canopy Views
Awaken to the sounds of the jungle. After breakfast, we embark on a forest trek to explore the terrestrial ecosystem. We then head back upstream toward Pillpintu Jungle Residence. Following a short hike, we’ll climb the observation tower for breath-taking panoramic views of the Amazonian canopy. The afternoon is dedicated to a motorized canoe excursion to spot parrots, toucans, and vibrant butterflies before returning to the lodge to relax.
Day 4: Laguna Grande & Caiman Spotting
Today we navigate to the “Laguna Grande.” We will hike through primary forest, where your guide will explain the medicinal uses of various plants and the secrets of the jungle’s flora. In the late afternoon, experience a spectacular sunset over the lagoon. After nightfall, we explore the riverbanks by flashlight to observe caimans in their natural habitat.
Day 5: Sunrise Wildlife & Departure
Experience the jungle at its most active during a 6:00 AM sunrise boat trip. After a final breakfast at the lodge, we depart at 9:00 AM. A canoe will take you back to El Puente for your onward journey to Quito.
